Oprah revealed that she is at peace with her decision to never have her own children, but if she had, the kids would have grown so bitter with her always putting her career first and resent not being her top priority.

Oprah Winfrey opened up about her decision not to ever have her own children, getting shockingly candid with The Hollywood Reporter about her choice. Though the television icon and philanthropist has influenced millions of young people, she insists that if she had raised children of her own, they would have “hated” her, because her career would have always come first.

Oprah Winfrey: If I Had Kids, They Would Have Hated Me

Oprah, 59, is confident that she made the right choice for her. “If I had kids, my kids would hate me,” Oprah told The Hollywood Reporter. ”They would have ended up on the equivalent of the Oprah show talking about me; because something [in my life] would have had to suffer and it would’ve probably been them.”
We find it hard to believe that Oprah’s kids would have ever hated her — everyone loves Oprah! — but it’s still not as though she hasn’t had an amazing influence over young people worldwide throughout her career. Most notably, her influence shines at the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls, the school she opened in South Africa in 2007.

Oprah Winfrey: I Was never The Kind Of Kid Who Dreamed About Having Children

Oprah’s decision not to raise children was a stark contrast to her best friend, Gayle King, who now has two children — but Oprah insisted it was just never for her. “Gayle was the kind of kid who, in seventh grade Home Ec. class, was writing down her name and the names of her children,” she told The Hollywood Reporter. “While she was having those kind of daydreams, I was having daydreams about how I could be Martin Luther King.”

What do YOU think, HollyMoms? Are you surprised that Oprah said her kids would have hated her?
